A Strawberry Birthday

Well this blog has yet again been sadly neglected. Strawberry Annie's have been working incredibably hard in the run up to Christmas ensuring all orders were sent out in time for the big day.

After a lovely Christmas day spent playing with all the new toys, and today playing with my new toy, a brand new gorgeous laptop thanks to the lovely Mr Strawberry. I now have no excuse for not keeping my blog up to date. Thoughts are already turning to the year ahead and what that will mean for Strawberry Annie's but more about that in the New Year..

For now I thought I would share a photo of the youngest strawberry blowing out her birthday candles as she turned five today!! Always hectic, remembering to blow up the balloons on the Christmas night ready for this morning. This is something we always do to try and make the day feel more Birthday for her.

Happy Birthday Annie!

Snow Strawberries

Well sorry this blog has been very neglected of late but the strawberries haven't been sitting back with their feet up. We have been very busy with both retail and wholesale orders.

Today after delivering several tutu orders by hand in the snow it was time for some fun...along we built our very own strawberry snowperson. Unfortunately she was very was quite a curvacious lady and couldn't quite squeeze into her tutu!

I think she was smiling trying to catch the eye of this handsome fella spotted in a garden a couple of houses along....

Photo Nightmares!!

I have long been battling with taking really good photographs of my products hence twice having had proffessional photo shoots done for my website.

However great though this was, and alot of fun it is not viable everytime I need to add products to my website. I have loads of goodies ready to sell but haven't been able to list them on my website, as I don't want shoddy shots letting the whole site down.

I have splurged a little and bought some light tents and daylight lamps & tripod etc but still not having alot of success which is very annoying. Today was meant to be spent trying again but I got bogged down in finishing orders. After a refreshing cup of tea I am going to spend the next hour trying to get to grips with it, then I need to deliver some goodies to 'Under The Pink Umbrella' in Chelmsford.

In the meantime I shall leave you with a couple of shots of the kids recent pumpkin carving endeavours....they may have had a bit of help from big sister but they did hollow them out themselves this year and come up with the ideas so thats a step up from last time!

Wish me luck x

Knit & Stitch Show Ally Pally

View From Ally Pally out over London.

Last Sunday found Strawberry Annie's scouring the aisles of the Knit and Stitch show at Ally Pally for new goodies/inspiration. Normallly I come back with only a smidgen of the items I would like due to cash flow but sadly this year I didn't really buy very much at all. There was some gorgeous fabric but all too expensive to be a viable option for making my products.

I did hover around the very scrumptious looking Blooming Felt stall. This company is run by the lovelist lady who is from our part of Essex, so it was nice to have a chat. Her stall was by far the nicest looking one.

I did however buy up quite alot of sewing magazines and was particulary impressed by Cloth magazine.
This is very much aimed at have a go stitiching and upcycling items etc rather than traditional sewing ideas. Young and fresh approach while worth a look.

Buy British

Buy British - Why? well the dull answer is with the country still in a financial mess...the best way forward is support the UK by Buying British, but the best reason is just because there is so much talent right here in old Blighty why go elsewhere or pay for cheap mass produceded products.

How about these fantastic birthday cards all limited editions....available from Button Soup
Check out the other cool items in stock.

Button Soup are based in Essex (where all the best designers reside LOL!) and specialise in all things amazing!!!! Go check them out, custom orders also available.

Fairy Dresses Need New Homes

Before I became a strawberry, I ran a fairy business. My loft is still housing a lot of fairy stock, so with Halloween and Christmas approaching I am looking to clear them all.

These are all brand new, with tags, and I have lots of sizes available. Any dress now only £10, this is an absolulte bargain as some of them retail upto £30. I am also listing ten as a job lot for £99.00, which would be ideal to sell on and make a few pennies.

Give me a shout if you like the look of any.

Scrummy Selection Boxes

I have spent this morning sewing new bows and flowers to fill our scrummy selection boxes. These are obviously just quick snap shots and the box colour will be changed and tags etc added but you get the idea.

Strawberry Annie's is now doing home shopping parties, so I thought these would be great gift ideas for people to buy.

We will be offering different colour combinations and different fillings for each box. I still need to fully cost out these but at the moment I'm thinking around the £10 per box price.

Let me know what you think

Tea Party Photo Shoot

Well I haven't blogged for a bit but don't think Strawberry Annie's have been enjoying lazy days sipping tea and eating cake, no matter what the photos suggest!

I have been madly busy in my workroom completing two more tutu dresses & aprons & chef hats in various colour combinations, in preparation for yesterdays photo shoot. As it was I ran out of time and I literally had the models in the dresses while we sewed on shoulder straps.

There were a few tears from the models and a few huffs about a certain young lady hogging all the pink items but once again the models did us proud and the photos are going to be stunning.

Sarah from Photography by Sarah was fantastic AGAIN!!! She arrived armed with tea pots and even some cupcakes...She then set up the whole shoot while I flapped about ironing table cloths and getting in tizz. It would not of turned out so well or been so much fun without Sarah's calming influence.

The tea party cakes were scrummy, the weather gorgeous and the location perfect (thank you to The Chocolate Truffle Company for loan of their garden).

It will be a few weeks until all the photos are ready as there is still some product shots to be completed but then all will be revealed...

New Product Sneek Preview

I have been busy over the last week working on a new product range for Strawberry Annie's...the Tutu Dress.

This dress is made from metres and metres of the finest quality fluffy tulle, it comprises of two layers of tulle, the underneath a pale pink and the top layer a hot pink. The dress is lined in pale pink fabric making it comfortable to wear and also preserves the modesty of the wearer.

The top part of the dress is elasticated, and this is enclosed in fabric for added comfort and durability. The dress also has halter straps and a gorgeous pale pink rose.

These dresses can be made in different sizes and lengths and of course the colours of your choice.

Let me know what you think.

New Tutus

Well I have been busy so apologies for the neglected blog. I have been working hard trying to promote Strawberry Annie's Boutique. Always a tricky one, as obviously people aren't just going to stumble across my site in cyberspace. I have given out hundreds of business cards throughout the summer but...I need to find more customers.

I have finally got motivated and started a shop on Folksy here with the hope it will get my name out there and let people find my site. I have also started a page on Facebook here and finally I am now on Twitter here. So hopefully through one of these channels people will find me. However than comes the problem of keeping them all up to date.

In the meantime I have been working on some custom orders and also working on the business side of things, trying to work out how to run my enterprise efficiently and effectively.

Here's a couple of tutus that I presently have in stock just looking for a good home...

Bristol Kite Festival

Well last weekend I was at the Bristol Kite Festival, in the craft marquee. Craft fairs are not something I do that often but I felt like a change. So the weekend was combined with a trip to my mother in laws in Gloucester and my stall at the Kite Festival.

Saturday I arrived unsure what to expect, but I received a warm welcome from Louise from Sew Scrumptious. I soon had my stall looking as good as I could and then I just had to wait for the customers. The craft marquee got gradually busier, lots of people looking but not so many buying, as is often the case. The days sales were fine in the end and I looked forward to Sunday, as I anticipated this would be the busier of the two days.

Unfortunately Sunday dawned wet and grey, and persisted as such right through until pack up time in the evening, this undoubtly led to poor foot fall in the marquee and therefore less sales.

Never the less I met some lovely people, notalby Louise's who's daughter Izzy had won a tutu from my blog giveaway, so it was great for her to be able to pick her own, and guess what colour she opted for....

Today has been spent setting up a Folksy shop and I have several tutu orders to start on in the morning.

The Weekends Show and Catch Up.

Well the Countess of Warwick Show wasn't as busy as I had hoped. In fact Sunday was dismal in both weather and attendance but Monday was alot better. There was a bit more of a buzz with more people there and we were able to sell some of our scrummy goodies to them.

I am still busy sewing's feeling never ending but I have set myself the deadline of school pick up time to get them finished. I have just stopped for a cup of tea and to update my blog.

Today marked a welcome return to school, giving me time to get back to my sewing at full speed. My son is a junior this year so that feels like a step up for him, my oldest daughter started at sixth form today and my youngest daughter starts school next Thursday. They are all growing up but to be honest I've never been the type of mum to feel sad about that, I am happy that time moves by and they get slightly more independant.

I have another event this weekend, I shall be having a stall at the Bristol Kite Festival, in the crafts marquee, Crafts 2 Fly 4...this is something different for me as usually I have my own gazebo at events but I am looking forward to being in with other people and getting to know a few new faces. Find out more about the event here.

Right off to iron out my bunting flags..

Countess of Warwick Show

Ok so tommorow I will be having a stall at the Countess of Warwick Show, Great Dunmow, Essex. I am hoping to sell off some fairy dresses and costumes that I no longer want to stock. I need to turn stock back into money so I can concentrate on Strawberry Annie's current stock.

Started Sewing This Morning..

and made this bag for little Miss Strawberry. It's not perfect, I think I should of shaped the liner at the top slightly so the seams sat flater but she liked it and I love the combination of fabric (her choice!)

I have also been busy sewing yet more bunting but now need to take the strawberries out somewhere as they are going stir crazy (or maybe its me!)

And the winner of a tutu is....

Well as promised the prize draw to win a handtied tutu took place today. Only four followers left a comment..a little bit less than I would of hoped for but a promise is a promise. My little strawberry was happy to work as the prize drawer(?)

So Louise from Sew Scrumptious well done, if you have a look on my website and choose the colours and size you would like, I will get it made and sent to you.

Oops I Went AWOL!!!!!

The gorgeous Southwold.

Well apologies its been so long since I updated you. The Strawberry's had a weekend away at Haven which was fun.

I haven't forgot the prize draw for the tutu, I will be doing that tommorow.

I will also have a sneak preview of a new product range...I have misplaced my sewing box which is a pain!! So just need to go and buy some more white cotton to finish it off and then I will photograph it and show you what I've been working on.

I have some Strawberry news too.. Strawberry Annie's is going in a slightly new direction and will be launching themselves onto the wholesale market in the next few months. I have made the decision that this will be the best way to move the business forward and make it a viable work option. I have booked a stall at the Spring Fair 2011... All very nerve wracking but exciting too. I will be working on the new wholesale ranges over the next few months but I will still be running my retail side.

Right off to cut out some more bunting as I want to get it added to my website shortly.
